Frequently Asked Questions

Sugaring/Waxing

Is sugaring/waxing safe?
Generally yes, but there are a few people who should consult a doctor first. Such as if you’re taking antibiotics, hormone replacement medication, hormonal birth control, Accutane, or retinoids. Also, treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation can make the skin more sensitive so if these apply to you its important to check with your doctor before booking this service. Refine will be unable to wax you if you use Retin-a or Accutane.

Can sugaring/waxing be done while on a period?
Absolutely yes, just be aware that skin can feel more sensitive during that time of the month. You may also experience a slight increase in dryness, itching, or redness as a result.

What if pregnant?
If you’re expecting, it’s always best to check with a doctor first.

Your skin can change in many ways, such as increased sensitivity during pregnancy. Be sure to let Refine know, if this applies to you so your treatment is specially tailored.

What are the benefits of High Frequency?

High frequency increases oxygen to the skin, improving the overall texture and tone as well as helps treat acne. Promotes collagen stimulation and elastin production, providing a firmer and more youthful appearance. High frequency facials are considered to be a safe, gentle and a therapeutic approach to skin rejuvenation, quickly healing and restoring your skin’s health.

Dermaplaning (10 × 8 in).jpg

Does dermaplaning cause my hair to grow back thicker and darker?
No, the soft and fine vellus hair grows back at the same rate and texture as it was before. Still, the hair will grow back which is why it’s best to dermaplane once every 3-4 weeks for continued smooth results.

Does dermaplaning hurt? Will it cause cuts?
Dermaplaning is performed with a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface. Hair removal such as waxing or sugaring, removes the entire hair and root from the follicle which can be somewhat painful, yet dermaplaning is painless. Please be advised that there is a slight risk of cuts on the skin, however these are small and very minor as the pressure used for Dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut. Any nicks or scrapes typically heal very quickly within 24-48 hours.

What are the benefits of Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion buffs, polishes, and resurfaces the skin with little to no downtime. With the use of a diamond tip, the skin is exfoliated and dead skin cells are suctioned away. This treatment visibly diminishes fine lines, age spots, hyperpigmentation, photo-damage and improve skin’s overall texture.
